Kristensen & Kristensen: design from Denmark
Kristensen & Kristensen A/S started out in 1991 as a family firm based in Esbjerg[VM1.1], on the west coast of Denmark.
Their passion for the trade and the craft grew,leading inevitably to the purchase of their own production unit. This happenedin 2003, with their very first workshop in Lithuania. In the meantime,production there has been further expanded and optimised. Design, productionand quality control are all in the firm’s hands, which offers nothing butadvantages. Around 300 people work there in a workshop of around 8,000 squaremetres.
Everything starts with natural materials, mainlysolid oak. Then comes precision work and the understanding of wood as the basisfor the design. Modern technology when producing each design is one thing, butof course the experience of the craftspeople who are creating the piece isequally important. Often, at the root of a design is a designer or a customerwith a unique request. Tailor-made models are also an option. There is always adirect link with Danish design. This does not necessarily have to mean thatminimalism is the sole focus here. Rather, clean lines, the right proportions,natural materials and functionality are celebrated. Models for everyday life.
The Brussels Furniture Fair will soon get to seethe latest models. They answer to names such as Amelia and Ant (both devised bydesigner Cecilie Kamp), Longboat and Velvet, Mikla and Floating (based on adesign by Morten Pedersen). All are pieces with a unique character.
