Trends 2012/2013
The style themes 2010/2011
were developed by Art Director Siegrid Demyttenaere for the Furniture Fair Brussels and DECOoh! Both the Furniture Fair Brussels and DECOoh! aim for a trend conscious public. A logical next step is to cooperate in this matter. Since 2006, the Furniture Fair offers its exhibitors a trend style brochure as a guideline for elaborating their collections. At the fair, these trend styles are illustrated with real products.

Do It Yourself/Together (DIY/T)
Be active instead of passive, create rather than consume, and do it together instead of alone.
We want to do as much as possible ourselves and join in decision-making in design and production processes (DIY) – and we want to do this together and share it with others (DIT). Designers and manufacturers will from now on have to take this into account.
The concept of sustainability has reached a new phase: the era of producing and consuming less has dawned. This is the only way simply to survive. It looks like the Earth is taking revenge for everything mankind has done to it. Which is why we want and have to produce and consume in the wisest and most environmentally-friendly way possible. Some people call this a retrograde step, and others a great leap forward.
DIY - HOMEMADE Yes I can
We do as much as possible at home: working, relaxing, making and growing things ourselves (vegetable garden). We want to share what we do ourselves, and the way we do it, with as many likeminded people as possible, by means of social media. Click on the image below to have a look at this trend:

DIT - CONSUMADE Yes we can
We want to determine as much as possible ourselves and take part in decisions in the design and production process. Manufacturers must switch from mass production to customisation and personalisation: ‘small is beautiful’. The producer and the consumer communicate and discuss with each other by means of social media. Click on the image below to have a look at this trend:
